Situated in the Preston campus of the University, it is a purpose built laboratory dedicated to offering interactive workshops for young people aged between 7-18 years about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).
The workshops run vary from making bath bombs with primary school children to performing genetic analysis with A-Level students. A big part of students' experience in the centre is wearing our lab coats and PPE so that they feel like real scientists for the day. This is particularly exciting for younger visitors.
Since opening in 2014 the YSC has had over 3500 students visit the centre and take part in workshops. 98% of students who attend enjoy their visit and 59% of students said they were more interested in studying STEM after their visit to the YSC (32% were already interested in studying STEM).
