UV Hand & Germ Hygiene Training Lotion - Blue or Green

UV GERM Hand Hygiene Training Lotion is a practical visual training aid designed to demonstrate effective hand washing and show exactly where cleaning technique can be improved.
The lotion contains microscopic fluorescent particles that are effectively invisible during normal use but become clearly visible when viewed under a suitable UV light. This allows trainers and learners to identify areas of the hands that have not been cleaned effectively, turning hand hygiene training into an interactive and memorable exercise.
For a hand washing exercise, the lotion is applied to the hands before washing. The learner then washes their hands as they normally would before placing them beneath a UV lamp or hand hygiene inspection unit. Any fluorescent lotion remaining on the skin becomes visible under UV light, highlighting areas that may have been missed or inadequately washed.
This immediate visual feedback can help demonstrate common problem areas and encourage improvements in hand washing technique. Rather than simply explaining good hand hygiene, trainers can allow participants to see the effectiveness of their own technique for themselves.
The lotion is available with either blue or green UV fluorescence. Both versions perform the same training function, allowing organisations to choose the fluorescent colour that best suits their equipment, training programme or preference.
UV GERM can also be used on most non-porous surfaces for hygiene and cross-contamination demonstrations. This provides additional opportunities for trainers to demonstrate how contamination can be transferred between hands, surfaces and frequently touched objects.
Manufactured in Britain, the lotion is described by the manufacturer as non-toxic, hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and gluten-free, with no parabens, PEGs, phthalates or sulfates.

How Does UV Hand Hygiene Training Work?
Apply the UV training lotion thoroughly to the hands, ensuring it is distributed across the areas being assessed. The participant then washes their hands using their normal hand washing technique.
After washing, place the hands beneath a suitable UV light. Remaining fluorescent traces become visible, allowing the participant and trainer to identify areas that have not been washed thoroughly.
The exercise provides immediate visual feedback and can then be repeated after discussing improved hand washing technique.
Blue or Green UV Fluorescence
UV GERM is available with either blue or green fluorescence.
The training principle is the same whichever option is selected: the fluorescent material becomes visible under suitable UV illumination and allows remaining traces to be identified after the hand washing exercise.
This also provides organisations with a choice when purchasing lotion for existing UV training equipment or developing different training exercises.
More Than Hand Washing Training
UV GERM can also be used on most non-porous surfaces, allowing trainers to create demonstrations showing how contamination can spread through contact.
For example, fluorescent material can be incorporated into an exercise involving hands and commonly touched objects. Participants can then use UV light to investigate where traces have travelled.
This makes the lotion useful for broader hygiene and infection prevention education as well as straightforward hand washing demonstrations.
Ideal For
Ideal for NHS and healthcare organisations, infection prevention and control teams, hospitals, care environments, universities, schools and colleges, training providers, occupational health teams, workplace hygiene programmes and organisations delivering practical hand hygiene or cross-contamination training.
Important – Not for Food Production Areas
UV GERM is a training product and is not classed as food safe. It should therefore not be used within areas designated for food production or preparation.
For food businesses wishing to demonstrate hand hygiene, training should be carried out in an appropriate training area away from food production and preparation.
